Don’t Rock the Boat

“We recently installed a gyro stabiliser on each of our vessels, and although it was a bit expensive, it has reduced the boat rocking by 50%. The crew are now less fatigued by the motion and more energised and efficient.”

Since making these changes, this crew found that they experienced significantly safer conditions onboard the vessel, and the crew felt less fatigued. For this crew, the change has been incredible for team morale, productivity and safety.

Tips and Tools

It is recommended that vessels look into various stabilisation options to determine the most suitable solution for their specific needs and that those involved with these decisions have a good understanding of vessel stabilisation. Vessel size, operating conditions and budget constraints should be considered. Vessel stabilisation options include gyroscopic stabilisers, active fin stabilisers, passive fin stabilisers, anti-roll tanks, active tensioning systems, and passive roll damping systems.
